Copyright Policy
Effective 1 January 2026 · Last updated 21 May 2026
Our approach to copyright
Circus respects intellectual property rights and expects its users to do the same. It is our policy to respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and applicable law in other jurisdictions, including the EU Copyright Directive (2019/790) and the UK Digital Economy Act.
If you believe that content on Circus infringes your copyright, you may submit a takedown notice using the process described below. Circus will act expeditiously upon receipt of a properly completed notice.
Reporting copyright infringement
To submit a copyright takedown notice, please send a written notice to our designated copyright agent containing all of the following:
- Identification of the copyrighted work: A description of the work(s) you claim have been infringed, or if multiple works are covered, a representative list.
- Identification of the infringing material: A description of the content you believe is infringing, including the URL or other information sufficient for us to locate it on the platform.
- Your contact information: Your full legal name, address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement of good faith: A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the content in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement of accuracy: A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate, and that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
- Your signature: Your physical or electronic signature.

We strongly recommend submitting notices by email for faster processing.
Incomplete notices may not be actioned. Please ensure all required elements are present before submitting.
Counter-notification
If you believe that content you posted was removed or disabled as a result of a mistake or misidentification of the material, you may submit a counter-notification. A valid counter-notification must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the content that has been removed and the location where it appeared before removal.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief that the content was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts in the country where you are located.
Upon receipt of a valid counter-notification, we will provide a copy to the original complainant. If the complainant does not notify us within 10–14 business days that they have filed an action seeking a court order to restrain the alleged infringement, we may restore the content.
Repeat infringers
It is our policy to terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who are found to be repeat infringers of copyright. We will consider a user a repeat infringer if we receive multiple valid takedown notices relating to their account within a rolling 12-month period.
Trademark infringement
If you believe your trademark is being infringed on Circus — for example, through an account impersonating your brand — please contact us at legal@circus.app with details of the mark, the allegedly infringing use, and your contact information. Trademark reports are reviewed separately from copyright notices.
Misuse of this process
Filing a false or misleading copyright notice is unlawful and may expose you to liability, including for damages, costs, and legal fees. Only submit a notice if you have a good faith belief that infringement has occurred. If you are unsure whether content infringes your rights, consider consulting a lawyer before submitting.
