Request My Data

You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Requests are free of charge, and we will respond within the timeframes set by applicable law.

What’s included in your export

Account details (email, display name, date of birth, registration date)
Content you have posted (text posts, captions, media upload records)
Usage history (features accessed and timestamps)
Account activity log (sign-ins, security events)
A record of any data shared with third-party service providers and the reason for sharing

What’s not included

Data that would infringe another person’s rights or privacy
Data we are legally required to retain separately (e.g. payment records retained for tax obligations)
Aggregated or anonymised data that cannot reasonably be linked back to you
Direct messages — these are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be decrypted by Circus

How to request your data

In-app — Through the Circus app

The easiest way to request your data. Available once the app launches.

Open Circus and go to Settings
Tap Privacy
Tap Download your data
Confirm your identity and submit the request

By email — Via privacy@circus.app

Send a request from your registered email address. Include:

Subject: “Data export request”
Your registered email address
Your registered email address
The specific data you’re requesting (or “full export”)

Timeline

Once we receive your request, we will respond within the following timeframes:

2 days — Confirmation of receipt
30 days — GDPR response deadline
45 days — CCPA/CPRA response deadline

For complex requests, GDPR allows an extension to 3 months and CCPA allows an extension to 90 days total. We will notify you if an extension applies.

Format

Data exports are provided as a downloadable ZIP archive containing structured JSON files for each data category, plus a human-readable HTML summary for easy browsing.

Identity verification

We will verify your identity before processing a data request. For in-app requests, your authenticated session serves as verification. For email requests, we verify that the request comes from your registered email address and may ask for additional confirmation.
